History
How It All Began
The name probably doesn't give you any hints, but Italo Suisse is actually... Belgian. So where does the name come from? Well, it all began in 1923 with the founder, who travelled all around Europe in order to refine his knowledge and skills in the production and presentation of chocolate. He then travelled to France and other places, but it was primarily in Italy and Switserland where he learned the trade of professional chocolate manufacturing. When the business activity began, the company was christened "Swiss-Italian Specialties." With this name, the grandfather of the current owners sought to preserve the rich traditions and customs of these countries in the creation of his chocolate products.
Since then, the children and grandchildren of the founder - the Libeert family - have dedicated themselves day after day to continuing these traditions. In the meantime, the name of the company evolved into "Italo Suisse." Today, the company - the headquarters as well as the factory - is situated in Comines, a Belgian town very near the French border. The location is not coincidental, as through the years, Italo Suisse has grown from a local business into an international player in the field of Belgian chocolate products.
